Fill-In Bartender / Retail Salesperson

Compensation: $17.75/hour + tips

Vino Carta is a wine bar and bottle shop in Little Italy focused on thoughtful wine, warm hospitality, and a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere.

This is a fill-in position, not a part-time or full-time role with a regular weekly schedule. We are looking for someone who can step in as needed to cover shifts for vacations, call-outs, schedule gaps, and other occasional staffing needs. Hours will vary based on business needs, and this role is best suited for someone looking for flexible, occasional work rather than a consistent set schedule.

Because we operate as both a bar and a retail shop, this role is a mix of bartending and retail sales. We’re looking for someone who can make guests feel comfortable at the bar, confidently guide them to the right bottle, and help keep the shop organized, stocked, and running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

• Greet guests and provide friendly, attentive service

• Pour and serve wine by the glass and other beverages

• Help guests select bottles for retail purchase with thoughtful recommendations

• Maintain strong knowledge of our wine selection and continue learning

• Execute transactions accurately through our POS system

• Handle cash drawers responsibly, including counting and reporting

• Receive, stock, and organize inventory

• Help maintain a clean, well-merchandised, and inviting retail floor and bar area

• Assist with light food preparation and service of our small bites menu

• Complete opening, running, and closing duties according to company standards

• Follow and uphold all safety, sanitation, and alcohol service policies

• Comply with all local, state, and federal laws related to alcohol service and workplace safety

• Support the team with cleaning, restocking, and other duties as needed

What We’re Looking For

• Must be 21+

• At least 1–2 years of bartending experience strongly preferred

• Retail or hospitality experience preferred

• Genuine interest in wine and a desire to keep learning

• Friendly, approachable, and confident with guests

• Strong communication skills

• Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable

• Able to multitask and stay calm under pressure

• Proactive and self-motivated

• Works well with others and contributes positively to team culture

• Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required

• LEAD certified (or willing to obtain, if applicable)

Physical Requirements

• Able to stand and walk for extended periods

• Able to lift and carry cases and supplies safely, including up to 55 lbs regularly

• Able to move heavier items with appropriate equipment or team assistance

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced hospitality environment, including indoor/outdoor spaces

• Able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and reach as needed during service and stocking

• Able to work safely in occasionally crowded, noisy, or slippery conditions

Schedule

• This is an as-needed, fill-in position

• No regular weekly schedule is guaranteed

• Shifts may be offered to cover vacations, sick days, schedule gaps, and other staffing needs

• Must be available for occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays
