Pat's Pick!

“I love mountain wines! Alpine terroir and dreamy visuals make for vibrant, charismatic wines that strike a chord for me. Deep in the Dolomiti Alps of Italy’s Alto Adige region is the historical hill of Santa Magdalena. Here you’ll find the native red varieties of Schiava and Lagrein grown together on steep slopes overlooking the alpine city of Bolzano.

Fliederhof is one of a handful of wineries located nearby producing traditional wines from organic fruit. Santa Magdalener Classico is always a blend of predominantly Schiava with a dew drop of Lagrein, and the 2023 ‘Marie’ is a phenomenal iteration of the style.

Laced with floral and red fruit aromas, the palate is bright ruby red and flavors of sour cherry, dried flowers and a hint of smoky minerality on the zippy finish. One of my favorite new wines from one of my favorite terroirs. Snag one for your next sunny afternoon soirées.”
