Friday Happy Hour 7/28

A Study in Syrah

The mainstream wine press is always wondering when Syrah will have its momement, claiming the grape never fulfilled its 'Next Great Thing' promise. Indeed, there were acres and acres of new Syrah planted in California in the 90s in anticipation, but Pinot Noir seemed to the steal the thunder.

Part of the problem was that Syrah was planted in places that maybe it shouldn't have been, and made into somewhat indifferent wine. That said, we have always loved Syrah, and think that the grape is a great transmitter of place. Check out these 4 Syrahs from around the world and we think you'll agree!

Benoit Roseau 2014 Syrah de Rosette, Collines Rhodaniennes, Rhone, France
Petrichor 2014 Estate Syrah, Sonoma County, CA
Moana Park 2014 Syrah, Gimlett Gravels, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
Agharta 2007 Red Label Syrah, North Coast, CA

4 Wines. $10. Starts at 5pm.

If you haven't already heard, we are proud to be teaming up with the "other best wine shops" in San Diego to bring a fun and casual weekend showcasing the beautiful world of natural wine. Beginning on Friday, August 4th, The Rose will host a "Kick Off Party" featuring local natural wine producers from San Diego and Mexico.

Then on Saturday, August 5th hop on the classic double decker British bus and tour around town visiting each of the three locations. At each stop will be multiple importers and producers from California and Oregon pouring their wines and discussing what it takes to make natural wine. Also on Saturday, we will have honored guests Alice Feiring and Marissa Ross available to talk shop and sign their recently released books.

Finally, the weekend wraps up on Sunday, August 6th with an Oyster & Bubbles Brunch at The Rose and an evening Big Bottle Bash closing party at Vino Carta.

Friday Happy Hour and Sunday Flight

Friday Happy Hour and Sunday Flight

Friday Happy Hour 7/21

We’re Not in Germany Anymore, Toto!

Despite its German heritage, Riesling is a global endeavor. From the Finger Lakes to California's Central Coast and many more places in between, the geopolitical boundaries of modern Germany cannot contain the global passion for this revered grape. Jump start your weekend into the upper stratosphere with this Friday's happy hour tasting!

4 Wines. $10. Starts at 5pm.

Sunday Flight 7/23

Back in the USA

After an extended celebration of French wines, it's time for a check in on Murika.  Perhaps what's most exciting about domestic wines is the ever expanding spectrum of varietals not call Cab Sauv, Chardonnay, or Pinot Noir and the young producers offering delicious iterations of them. Finish your weekend with a dose of fermented grape patriotism, and join us this Sunday. We'll try to scrounge up some Linda Ronstadt and Chuck Berry for ya. See you soon.

5 Wines. $15. Starts at noon.
